Used by hard-working professionals and academics around the world:

"NotePlan is a critical part of my workflow. I've converted fully to Markdown for all of my notes and NotePlan handles this so well, bringing together my daily agenda items and any associated notes I take. I really love the Calendar and Reminders integration, but the flawless sync to iOS really takes the cake."

Using plain text Markdown files saved in a local folder popular organization frameworks such as Bullet Journal and Zettelkasten are naturally supported.

“NotePlan delivers in a pragmatic and beautiful way the dream of notes and actions in one app. I always have context when doing my tasks. It is simple yet powerful and I positively love that it is built around Markdown, which allows for great interoperability with other apps. It runs beautifully in both my Macbook and my iOS devices.“

Meeting Notes

Make every meeting count

Document your meetings efficiently. Create connections through tags and backlinks to make better decisions.

"It is not only important for our consultants to keep track of their tasks, but also to document meeting results efficiently. NotePlan shows it's strengths here by allowing us to capture decisions, and action points during meetings and to distribute them to the team. Using Markdown avoids distractions and is universally interchangeable."

iCloud Integration

All in one digital planner

Integrate iCloud (iCal, Google, Exchange) calendars and Reminders and keep an eye on your time side-by-side with tasks and notes.

"NotePlan is absolutely essential to me as a Technical Solutions Architect. The seamless integration of my calendar, tasks, and notes ensures that even the most hectic day or week is under control and all in one place. I cannot imagine doing what I do without NotePlan"

Evan Hunter

Technical Solutions Architect - Cisco Systems, Inc.

How does it work?

NotePlan is organized around notes – one note per day, plus any number of undated notes that you can set up in parallel. How NotePlan worksJot down notes and additional to-dos as they occur to you. At the end of the day or first thing tomorrow review the note and prioritize for the next day.

With NotePlan your day doesn't start with a list of unimportant notes and tasks that were automatically carried over from yesterday. Instead, you start your day with a blank canvas, which is like a built-in purging system. You have a daily notepad for quick ideas, pieces of information, meeting notes, or tasks that need to be jotted down.

Make bi-directional [[connections]] between your notes using wiki-links and let your system do the hard work of combining ideas.

Your notes are based on Markdown and saved in plain text files. This means your data is easily accessible at all times (not locked up in a server) and it's highly portable (you can use any text editor). Your devices are kept in sync using CloudKit (fast and reliable Apple database).

NotePlan also syncs with your iCloud Calendar and Reminders, so you have all the important information in one place, right when you need it.

P.S. NotePlan is a self-funded, independent full-time project by Eduard.

"What makes this app truly unique is the use of Markdown, which really speeds up both taking notes and creating action items."

What happens to NotePlan 2?

NotePlan 2 will remain as a separate app on the AppStore, at least for a while. This is not a forced upgrade. You can decide if you want to upgrade to NotePlan 3 or keep using NotePlan 2. It will also get critical bug fixes for a while. Just recently a crash was fixed for macOS Big Sur (the next macOS update).

I have purchased NotePlan 2. Do I get a discount?

Yes, you are eligible for a discount:

  • If you have purchased NotePlan 2 in the past you can use NotePlan 3 for at least 3 months free of cost before the subscription starts.
  • If you have purchased NotePlan 2 recently (<6 months), you will receive 6 months free.
  • Before you can redeem your discount, you need to run NotePlan 2 updated and licensed at least once.
  • It doesn't matter where you have purchased NotePlan 2 (website or AppStore). NotePlan 3 will detect your original purchase. Download it from where you have originally purchased it and apply the license if needed.
  • You can redeem the discount after subscribing or through the NotePlan "Preferences" / "License Detail" screen.

I have used the beta, what now?

The App Store version uses the same data as the beta version, you don't need to setup or change anything. You just have to Download NotePlan 3 on the App Store and subscribe to any plan. The beta version won't get updates anymore and will expire soon. All updates will go through the App Store from now on.

Are NotePlan 2 and NotePlan 3 compatible?

Yes, NotePlan 3 saves your data in the same way as NotePlan 2 - plain text files in markdown format. You can use both versions side-by-side.

However, if you switch to CloudKit syncing, NotePlan 2 won't be able to access your data. You will need to copy it manually from NotePlan 3's folder into iCloud Drive (or local folder, if you turned off sync) to make it available in NotePlan 2.

Do you have a web (or Android, Windows) version?

No, but a web version is planned and with NotePlan 3 the foundation is set to support it. The key technology to make this happen is CloudKit. Android and Windows are not planned, but you will be able to use the web version on those platforms using your Apple ID.

How is my data saved and synced?

NotePlan saves all your notes in plain text files in a folder on your device. This means you can open your notes with any text tool (such as TextEdit) and it's saved in a readable format (Markdown). NotePlan 3 uses CloudKit (and optionally iCloud Drive) to sync your data. In case of CloudKit (preferred) your local data is mirrored to a database (developed and managed by Apple, privately accessible only by your Apple ID).

“There is no shortage of todo and note-taking apps. For makers, the hardest thing is to learn to say "no" to new functionality and instead stay loyal to the core concept. I think NotePlan keeps staying true to the core concept and delivers a nice and clean interface that stays out of your way.”

"Within the framework of the foundation. I need to be able to capture and retrieve strategic information quickly. I need a rustic tool with special forces senses: endure difficulties without losing its capabilities. I don't have a day that is alike. NotePlan has become the backbone of my strategic intelligence system. Pure efficiency."
